PROCEDURE TO RECEIVE THE IBEC CERTIFICATE FROM IB

HGU’s IB Educator Certificate program has been fully recognized by the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO). Upon completion of ALL four courses that comprise the IBEC program, students will submit a request for the official IBEC to IBO. In order to receive the IBEC from the IB Organization, students will need to submit a form (IB certificate in teaching and learning registration) to the IB organization via the email address in the form. Fees for the certificate which are paid directly to IBO are separate from any fees to Handong Global University for the program.

IBEC ASSESSMENT POLICY

All assessment approach is based on IB principles and practices to make sure that it is meaningful, fair and in the best interest of the students with the intent of developing students through a holistic program of study.

Correlated to all IB programmes, authentic assessment of open-mindedness, perspective thinking and intercultural understanding will be highly valued and upheld.

Assessments are any tasks that are completed by the student to demonstrate their ability.

Two types of assessment approach will be used in the IBEC program:

Formative - assessment for learning

Summative - assessment of learning

Formative assessment will aim to provide detailed feedback on the nature of the student’s strengths and weaknesses, so that they can further develop their capabilities.

For the instructor, formative assessment will be used to inform them for future teaching of the knowledge, skills and understanding that students have yet to develop, rather than measuring the level of students’ achievement. This may be evident through the guide or support of the instructor during class discussions and/or direct interactions, and the modifications the instructor may make throughout the course of study.

Summative assessments will aim to measure what the student can do or achieve, demonstrating the completion of a task or the course. While formative assessment measures ‘why’ a student does something, summative assessment will measure whether they did it correctly.

A range of assessment tools will be used, that includes but is not limited to exam papers, short essays or research essays, written assignments, oral interviews, investigations, group projects, reflective journals, fieldwork projects and/or oral presentations that will be completed by candidates at various times under various conditions during their course.

Grading will follow the same guidelines and standards as HGU with the exception of ‘Recompletion’.

Grading

Grading will reflect how well the student has performed or met the criteria.

ACADEMIC INTEGRITY

Handong Global University is a learning community that fosters the pursuit of knowledge and the transmission of ideas within a context that emphasizes a sense of responsibility for oneself, for others and for society at large. Violations of academic integrity, in any of their forms, are, therefore, detrimental to the values of Handong, to the students’ own development as responsible members of society, and to the pursuit of knowledge and the transmission of ideas. Violations include but are not limited to the following categories: cheating; plagiarism; fabrication; falsification or sabotage of research data; destruction or misuse of the university’s academic resources; alteration or falsification of academic records; and academic misconduct. Conduct that is punishable under the Academic Integrity Policy could result in additional disciplinary actions by other university officials and possible civil or criminal prosecution.
